Sophomore Alfred Kipchumba qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in the men’s 10,000-meter run and junior Cori Moore advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s 800-meter run at the NCAA West Preliminary held at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday night. Portland has now had at least one competitor qualify for the NCAA Championships in 19 consecutive seasons.

Four University of Portland runners will travel to Austin, Texas for the NCAA West Preliminary Round Track and Field Championships scheduled for May 27-29 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Alfred Kipchumba (10,000-meter) and Jared Bassett (3,000-meter Steeplechase) will represent the men’s team, while Cori Moore (800-meter) and Sifrash Ademe (10,000-meter) will represent the women’s team.

Junior Cori Moore set a meet and facility record in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.31 at the Pacific Twilight last Saturday. The time was good for No. 2 on the Portland Top 10 list and followed a PR performance from Moore in the 1,500-meter run (4:27) at the Oregon Relays on Friday.
