EUGENE, Ore. – The Portland Pilots women’s tennis team swept the previously undefeated Eastern Washington Eagles 7-0 at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene, Ore. on Saturday nabbing their first win of the spring season.
Portland was sharp in both singles and doubles play, winning all six single matches in two sets while claiming the doubles point by winning all three challenges.
Highlighting the wins was junior Stephanie Fuchs who remains undefeated in singles so far this season (2-0) after defeating Ryann Warner 6-2, 6-4.
Newcomers Valeska Hoath and Cassie McCloskey both took down their opponents in two straight sets to claim their first victories as Pilots.
As a team the Pilots now sit at 1-1 on the season, with a loss Friday to Oregon.
Portland next faces Washington on the road on Friday, Feb. 5. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
