PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots men’s tennis team swept cross-town rivals Portland State Friday to secure their first win of the spring season. The Pilots cranked out wins in all six singles spots and claimed the doubles point to improve to 1-2 overall.
"We had some bumps in the road today but got through unscathed,” said head coach Aaron Gross. “I don't know that we had any stand out performances. Everyone took care of business.”
Junior Bryan Thorp had the most difficult task in the dual as junior Viking Alex VanDerschelden forced him to three sets at No. 2 before Thorp would notch the win.
“We need to play much better against Oregon tomorrow to win”, said Gross. “The Ducks are a solid team and will really be a challenge. We are looking forward to the match."
