Pilots Conclude Regular Season with a Sweep of Idaho State

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots men’s tennis team wrapped up regular season competition with a convincing sweep, 7-0, against non-conference opponents the Idaho State Bengals at home on Sunday.

“Jackson Martin and Nick Wales stepped in nicely today,” said head coach Aaron Gross. “And it was the usual stellar performance by senior Filip Zivkovic in his last home match. Filip and co-senior Evan Schleining did a good job in doubles."

Junior Daniel Coelho faced the toughest competition at the No. 3 singles spot as ISU’s Dakota Pate forced him to a 10-point tiebreaker.

The 66th-ranked doubles duo of Zivkovic and Schleining posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot to lead the Pilots to claim the doubles point.

The Pilots finish the regular season with a 9-8 overall record and 1-0 in West Coast Conference action.

Portland now takes a few days rest before heading to the West Coast Conference Championships in San Diego, Calif. on April 23-25.

"It feels good to get a win heading into the conference tourney,” said Gross. “We are playing pretty well at this point. Most of our ability to be successful next weekend comes down to being healthy. Once again, we had two of our normal top six players out of the singles competition today.
