PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots continue their preseason training on Wednesday night as they welcome the Oregon State Beavers to Merlo Field for a men’s soccer exhibition match at 7:00 p.m. UP, which was picked to finish second this season in the West Coast Conference, opens its regular season next week at Merlo Field.
This will be the first match between Portland and Oregon State, albeit exhibition, since 2003. The Pilots have won three straight against the Beavers and own a 19-3-0 advantage in the all-time series.
Portland, which advanced to the Third Round of the NCAA Playoffs last season, returns 15 letterwinners and seven starters to The Bluff, while adding nine newcomers. Seniors Austin Guerrero and Jarad vanSchaik and junior Ryan Kawulok were each selected to the WCC’s Preseason All-Conference Team.
The Pilots begin the regular season on Friday, Sept. 3 when they host Evansville as part of the 2010 Nike Invitational at Merlo Field. Washington and Northern Illinois kick off the invitational with a match at 4:30 p.m.
