1995-96: For the second consecutive year, the University of Portland produced the WCC Player of the Year. Former Pilot Amy Claboe won last year’s award; Laura Sale is this year’s winner. The senior forward was a unanimous choice by league coaches. Sale also has been honored by the WCC and CoSIDA/ GTE for her performance in the classroom. A senior majoring in education, Sale has been named to the WCC All-Academic Team for the third straight year. Sale also earned a second appearance on the CoSIDA/ GTE Academic All-District VIII team (3.83 GPA).
 
1994-95: All-West Coast Conference First Team… All-WCC Tournament… WCC All-Academic Team… CoSIDA/ GTE District 8 Academic All-America… seventh-leading scorer in the WCC with a 14.8 average… other WCC statistical rankings included ninth in rebounding (6.3), seventh in field goal percentage (.465) and fourth in free throw percentage (.788)… free throw percentage rates second on the school’s single-season list… all-tournament selection at the Portland Invitational and the New Mexico Lobo Classic… posted a double-double against Oregon with 17 points and 10 rebounds… career high 26 points vs. Seattle University… enters the 1995-96 season ranked fourth on the Portland’s career 3-pointers list (46) and seventh in 3-point field goal percentage (.317)… needs 35points to become the eighth 1,000-point scorer in program history.
 
1993-94: All-WCC Honorable Mention… WCC All-Academic Team… was the only Pilot to start all 29 games and finished as the team’s No. 2 scorer (12.9 ppg)… scored a career –high 23 points vs. Saint Mary’s… nearly pulled off a triple double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists vs. St. Francis… Portland’s No. 2 3-point shooter with 21… made a final cut for the West Team at the 1994 Olympic Sports Festival tryouts.
 
1992-93: WCC Scholar-Athlete Award… appeared in all 29 games with three starts… scored a season high 16 points vs. Illinois State.
 
Mercy High School: Three-time Mid-Valley League MVP… two-time Mercy MVP… All-State as a junior and senior... prep single-game scoring high in 37 points… Sacramento Evening Optimist All-Star Game participant… All-Mid-Valley League in volleyball (twice) and softball (three times)… two-time league MVP… also lettered in track & field… co-salutatorian of her senior class with 3.96 GPA.
 
Personal: Born October 30, 1974 in Red Bluff, Calif… full name is Laura Darlene Sale… parents are Ryan and Cindy Sale… her uncle, Doug Sale, was a former assistant coach with John Wooden at UCLA and played baseball at Cal State Hayward… major is secondary education
