Portland (7-4-1/1-1-1) and #17 Loyola Marymount (7-3-2/0-0-1) managed only a combined seven shots on goal Friday in a 0-0 overtime tie, as 120 minutes of soccer failed to provide a winner.
Though Portland had a 14-8 advantage in corner kicks, the Pilots could only get three marginal shots on goal, each saved easily by LMU keeper Dan Sheridan. Sheridan was busy on Portland’s corner opportunities, however, repeatedly punching away dangerous balls.
On the other end, LMU’s only serious shot came in the second overtime when Arturo Torres collected a cross and sent a bounding ball at the goal, only to be stopped by Portland keeper Curtis Spiteri.
The majority of the match was contested in the middle third of the field, as both teams attempted to build from the back. Defense for both teams was solid, as open shots on goal were scarce.
Yuji Teranishi had five of LMU’s 12 shots, while Darrin Domingo had three shots to lead Portland.
