Karl Aaker's baseline 3-pointer with 32 seconds remaining broke a 66-66 tie Wednesday, and Portland went on to a 71-66 win at Idaho.
Coky Rochin led all scorers with 22 points, while Ghislain Sema came off the bench for 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Aaker added 10 points.
Portland (2-2), had a 10-point lead with 5:47 remaining, but Idaho (1-2) went on a 10-0 run and tied the game at 64-64 with 2:23 left.
A Coky Rochin jumper put Portland up by two, but Idaho tied it second later. After Casey Frandsen missed a 3-pointer, Idaho had the ball for nearly 45 seconds but couldn't convert a basket.
Inbounding under Portland's basket, Idaho turned the ball over with 46 seconds left and Portland took a timeout to set up Aaker's game-winner.
Frandsen's drive from the top of the key drew two defenders, leaving Aaker wide open for a baseline 3-pointer.
Three shots from Idaho on the next possession wouldn't go in, and Ross Jorgusen converted two free throws with two seconds left after finally corralling the loose ball.
Portland shot 60.9% from the field in the game (14-23 in each half), hit 7-of-17 3-pointers, 8-of-11 free throws, and outrebounded Idaho 37-32. The Pilots, however, continued to struggle with turnovers, committing 22 while holding Idaho to just 31.1% field goals.
Rodney Hilaire led Idaho with 17 points, Moe Jenkins added 15 points, and Matt Gerschefske 11, but that trio was just 13-of-36 from the field.
