The Portland Pilots beat the San Francisco Lady Dons in a wild match Saturday, 3-1. The Pilots won the first game 30-26 and the second game 30-21. The Lady Dons came back to win the third game 30-20. The Pilots pulled out a win in a very close game four 31-29.
In the first game, numerous Pilots came up with some big plays for Portland. Junior middle blocker Anna Abatzoglou had 6 kills in the first game. Abatzoglou ended the night tying her career high in kills for the second straight night with 16 for the match. Anna also had 2 solo blocks as well as 1 assisted block.
In the second game, the Pilots took the lead early and led 17-8 early on. The Pilots had a 25-14 lead, before closing out the game by winning 30-21. In the second game, senior outside hitter continued moving up the career leaders listin digs as she tied Gretchen Sanders with 902. Later on in the third game Beschen tied Julie Knight with 903 for eigth place and eventually took it over by herself and now has 913 digs.
In the third game San Francisco took the lead early 10-4, and did not look back. Amanda Willnerd led the Lady Dons with 15 kills for the match. April Scoggin had a match-high 35 assists for San Francisco.
The fourth game was close throughout with neither team getting much of a lead. Abatzoglou ended the match with her second solo block of the night to give the Pilots the win in the game 31-29. The victory for Portland is their second in West Coast Conference play giving them a 2-9 record in the WCC and a 6-15 record overall. The Lady Dons fall to 4-7 in West Coast Conference action and 9-12 overall.
