Junior middle blocker Anna Abatzoglou has been named Co-Player of the Week in the West Coast Conference. The award is the first for a Pilot volleyball player since 1996 when Gretchen Sanders was named player of the week. She shares the award this week with junior middle blocker Stacy Rouwenhorst of Pepperdine.
In the three matches played during the week, Abatzoglou had 44 kills and twice tied her career high of 16 kills in a match. She had a total of 9 blocks for the week, 3 solo blocks including the match winning solo block against San Francisco on Saturday and 6 block assists.
On Tuesday, against Portland State Anna had 12 kills on 27 attempts with just 2 errors. She also had 4 block assists and one solo block. The 5 total blocks were a season high for Anna and the 4 block assists tied a season high for her.
Friday night against #20 Santa Clara, Anna had a huge night for the Pilots when she recorded 16 kills on 23 attempts with just 1 error, giving her a attack percentage of .652. The .652 attack percentage is a new school record during the use of rally scoring, which was implemented this season.
Anna scored the match-winning point for the Pilots on Saturday night with a solo block to give the Pilots the victory in the game 31-29, as well as the match 3-1 against San Francisco. Anna recorded 16 kills for the second straight night.
