Casey Frandsen's 28 points were lost in a 77-74 loss Saturday to Arkansas State, as Portland finished 0-3 in the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic at Hawaii.
The Pilots rallied from a 40-32 halftime deficit to take a 57-52 lead after a trio of Frandsen free throws nine minutes into the second half.
Arkansas State responded with a 17-12 advantage over the next eight minutes, leaving the score knotted at 69-69. The Indians forged a 73-69, but Frandsen's seventh 3-pointer of the game pulled the Pilots within 73-72 with 1:44 left.
After a pair of ASU free throws, Coky Rochin knocked down two free throws with 41 seconds left to keep the contest at one point.
Arkansas State (8-5) then missed two of four free throws in the final seven seconds, but Portland was unable to get the rebounds.
Frandsen was 7-of-11 on 3-pointers - one off the school record - and 9-of-14 from the field, and perfect in three free throw attempts.
Coky Rochin's added a career-high 15 rebounds to his 17 points, while Karl Aaker contributed a career-high 15 points and four blocks, with six rebounds. Adam Quick joined the career-high list with 12 assists.
Terrence Saulsberry scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the second half, while Tony Brown added 14 points and nine rebounds. Seven-foot all-American candidate Jason Jennings had six blocks, 12 points and nine rebounds.
