PORTLAND -- Lehigh outscored Portland 52-34 in the second half Saturday, coming back to beat the Pilots 76-73. The Pilots (4-8) led 39-24 at halftime, but made just five field goals in the second half.
Lehigh (3-8), converted 18-of-29 field goals in the second half, six coming on 3-pointers, but still had to hold off the Pilots in the final minutes. The Pilots scratched back into the lead at 73-72 on Casey Frandsen’s 3-pointer with 50 seconds left, but after Lehigh’s Matt Logie hit a jumper from the baseline to put the Mountain Hawks ahead 74-73 with 37 seconds left, the Pilots turned the ball over.
A pair of Alan Goff free throws with 18 seconds left put Lehigh ahead by the final margin, and a pair of Portland 3-point attempts in the final eight seconds didn’t make it home.
Logie led Lehigh with 20 points, including five 3-pointers, while Alan Goff added 16 points, seven assists and three steals. Coky Rochin had a game-high 23 points to go with a career-best 16 rebounds, and Frandsen finished with 14 points.
Portland reversed an early 6-4 Lehigh lead with a 28-5 run covering nearly 13 minutes, and led 39-21 with one minute left in the first half before Goff hit a trey in the final 30 seconds. The Pilots then proceeded to turn the ball over seven times in the first six minutes as Lehigh closed within 44-40.
Lehigh, which hadn’t won a road this season, then went on a 27-14 lead over the next 10 minutes to stake out a 67-58 lead with 3:43 to play.
Portland outrebounded Lehigh 41-26, but committed 12 second-half turnovers and 19 in the game - leading to 31 Lehigh points.
Portland travels to Idaho State on Jan. 2, then returns for a Jan. 5 home date with Montana State.
