Pocatello, ID -- The University of Portland women’s volleyball team fell Saturday afternoon to Marquette 21-30, 27-30, 24-30, in the two teams’ first ever meeting.
Senior outside hitter Bridget DeChant was the headliner for the Pilots in their defeat, hitting .571 with 13 kills in 21 attack attempts and seven digs. Sophomore middle blocker Heather Denison, who had a breakout game against Idaho State in the first game of the ISU tourney with a career-high 13 kills, only recorded six kills and a .048 percentage against the Golden Eagles.
Vesna Grbavac led the Golden Eagles with 17 kills and a .471 hitting percentage. She also had eight digs.
