Oregon State's Joe Zaher scored with 32 seconds remaining Wednesday, giving the Beavers (8-1-0) a 2-1 win over Portland (7-4-0).
Nate Jaqua's goal just 35 seconds into the match gave Portland a quick 1-0 lead, but the Pilots were unable to sustain any momentum. Jaqua's goal was the third-fastest Pilot goal in recorded history.
Speeding down the left side of the field, Heath Pearce centered a low cross to Jaqua, who one-timed his shot to the near post.
OSU tied the match in the 34th minute when Alan Gordon took a throw-in from 35 yards out, dribbled through two Portland defenders, and beat Pilot keeper Curtis Spiteri to the left.
Zaher's game-winner came after the Beaver player dribbled some 15 yards across the top of the box, then fired past a shielded Spiteri.
OSU outshot Portland 15-12, forcing Spiteri to make five saves.
Portland returns to action Sunday, Oct. 6, hosting Washington at 2:15 p.m.
