Christine Sinclair scored two goals Friday, and Lindsey Huie added a goal and an assist as #4 Portland beat San Francisco 3-0. The win improved Portland's all-time record to 15-1-0 against the Dons.
Ultimately, the Pilots just had more weapons to choose from. The ones that got away included a Kristen Moore shot from the left side of the field to a sprinting Christine Sinclair who put the ball into the upper corner of the net in the 16th minute. Sinclair would score again just after halftime, taking off on a breakaway, again from the left side. Her second goal came on an assist from Lindsey Huie in the 62nd.
The Dons came close to getting a goal of their own toward the end of the match when Meghan Daly nimbly made it through the center of the field and past several Pilots' defenders, positioning herself about five yards out from the goal for a direct shot. But Portland goalie Lauren Arase guessed right on the direction of the shot off Daly's left foot and made the save.
At that point the momentum shifted again to the Pilots. Lindsey Huie added a third goal when she took off from the middle of the field and headed straight for the goal, unassisted, kicking the ball just inches past Orantes in the 89th.
