The University of Portland Cross Country teams continued their 2002 seasons today on the road at the Beaver Classic in Corvallis, OR. The Pilot men raced their ‘B’ squad and notched a third-place showing with 55 points. The Pilot women also raced their ‘B’ squad and marked a second-place finish with 42 points.
Full men’s team results are as follows: Oregon (1st, 32 points), Willamette (2nd, 44 points), Portland (3rd, 59 points), Oregon State (4th, 103 points, club team).

Portland’s Josh Singsaas crossed the line in 19:09.55 for a 17th-place finish. Singsaas was just ahead of teammates Brett Hargrave (23rd, 19:26.0) and Brandon Wedam (24th, 19:26.61). Other Pilot scorers included Brian Murphy (26th, 19:30.52) and Scott Ruppel (37th, 20:50.07).
For the women, Sarah Grue finished first for Portland, fifth overall in a time of 14:35.8. Teammate Michelle Pierce came in just behind Grue in eighth-place with a time of 14:45.8. Other Pilot scorers included Elise Sabin (10th, 14:51.2), Erin Gerhardt (14th, 15:01.2), Erin Ferguson (16th, 15:18.4), China Metzen (19th, 15:28.8), Jennifer Smith (28th, 16:19.7) and Maura Bannon (29th, 16:22.2).
