The University of Portland women’s basketball team dropped an 86-56 decision to the Tulane Green Wave on Sun., Dec. 1 at the Chiles Center in Portland, OR. Portland moves to 1-3 on the season, while Tulane improves to 2-1 overall.
Tulane physically outmanned the Pilots at every position and had the advantage on the boards, 38-23. The Pilots battled, but shot just 35 percent (22-63) from the field, 17 percent (3-18) from behind the arc and 69 percent (9-13) from the free-throw line. Tulane was able to score 13 second chance points and 44 points from its bench. The Pilots scored 21 points off turnovers, but the Green Wave tallied 26 points on fast breaks.
“They took it to us physically and outmanned us at every position,” said Head Coach Jim Sollars.
Khailia O’Rielly-Williams led the Pilots with 15 points and nine rebounds. O’Rielly-Williams shot
7-of-15 from the field and added two assists, two blocked shots and one steal in the game. Teammate Michaela Dalgleish added 11 points and five assists on 3-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line. Cecily O’Rielly-Williams added eight points in the effort.
“We didn’t put the effort in and we had too many turnovers,” said Sollars. “We didn’t play smart and we didn’t play together as a team when we got down. I know we can do better than that, we’re a young team and will learn from this one and move forward.”
Tulane had three players score in double-digits on the night. Teana McKiver led all players with 18 points and seven rebounds. Delacey Joseph tallied 13 points and five boards, while Muci Haris chipped in 12 points. Tulane cleared the bench and all 14 players saw time in the game. Tulane shot 35-of-56 (63 percent) from the field, 7-of-11 (64 percent) from three-point range and 9-of-12 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.
