Assistant Coach Ian Solof ran the California International Marathon in Sacramento last week and qualified for the 2004 Olympic Trials.
“I am thrilled to have qualified again, but I really wanted to break 2:20,” said Assistant Coach Ian Solof. “It was tough seeing the clock as I ran toward the finish line, knowing I was just going to miss it. My legs just wouldn't go any faster.”
Solof ran the race in 2:20:04 and finished ninth overall. He was the third American to finish. In order to qualify for the trials which will be held in Birmingham, AL in Feb 2004, participants must run under 2:22. This is the second Olympic Trials Solof has qualified for, having finished 52nd in Pittsburgh in 2000. He is 31 years old.
There are usually around 100 men that qualify for the Marathon Trials.To train for the race, coach Solof ran up to 130 miles per week. Full results are posted at: www.runcim.org/data/Results2002all.html.
