Darrell Tucker erupted for 27 of his game-high 34 points in the second half Saturday, leading San Francisco to a 97-81 win over Portland. The loss dropped Portland to 6-23 overall, 2-12 in WCC games. The Pilots will be the eighth seed for next weekend’s West Coast Conference tournament in San Diego, and will faced either Gonzaga or Pepperdine.
Casey Frandsen answered with 30 points for Portland Saturday, knocking down 10 of 21 shots from the field, while Coky Rochin added 17 points and nine rebounds. Ghislain Sema had his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
San Francisco raced out to a 24-3 lead, as six of their first nine field goals were 3-pointers. Shamell Stallworth scored 24 points in the game, 19 in the first half. The Pilots got the San Francisco lead under 15 points just twice in the first half, but Stallworth hit his fifth 3-pointer of the half to put the Dons ahead 47-30 at halftime.
In the second half, Tucker took over, scoring seven consecutive points for the Dons for a 59-40 edge. Adam Quick answered with a 3-pointer to make the score 62-48 less than a minute later, but the Dons repelled the effort with more 3-pointers.
San Francisco made a school-record 17 3-pointers of 30 attempts, and were 31-of-62 from the field. Portland finished at 40% from the field and 77% at the free throw line.
