San Diego raced out to a 17-5 lead and never looked back Thursday, beating Portland 103-80. The Pilots fell to 5-18 overall, 1-8 in WCC play; San Diego improved to 12-10, 4-5.
The Toreros canned 61% of their first-half shots – 56.9% for the game – and made 10 of 19 3-point attempts in the win. San Diego led 30-10 midway through the first half, and led 50-30 at haltime.
Roy Morris had 17 points to pace six Toreros in double figures, as Sam Adamo added 16, Jason Blair and Andre Laws 15, Corey Belser 11 and Kevin Hanson 10.
Coky Rochin led Portland with 24 points and six rebounds, hitting 8-of-12 from the field and the free throw line. Rochin had 15 points in the second half, as the Pilots rebounded to shot 60% from the field after just 34.4% in the first 20 minutes. Eric Knight had 13 points in his first start of the season, while Casey Frandsen and Ross Jorgusen each scored 12 points.
