Portland’s lowest field goal shooting night of the season resulted in a 75-58 loss Saturday at Santa Clara. The Pilots managed to shoot just 33.9% from the field and dropped to 5-19 overall, 1-9 in West Coast Conference play.
Santa Clara (10-13/5-5), wasn’t much better than the Pilots, shooting only 41.8% from the field, but outrebounded Portland 52-35. All 13 players active on SCU’s roster scored in the game, led by Kyle Bailey’s 14 points. Justin Holbrook added 13 points.
Casey Frandsen had 21 points to lead all scorers, while Coky Rochin fell one rebound short of his 15th double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Portland trailed 36-29, and got the disadvantage down to 41-36 three minutes into the second half, but Santa Clara ripped off a 10-0 run in only two minutes and never looked back.
