Portland's Julie Elliott was the lone Pilot competitor at the Willamette Multi-Event Meet on Thurs.-Fri., May 15-16 in Salem, Ore.
Elliott, competing in the event for the first time in her career, recorded the second-best score in University of Portland history (4598).
She finished second overall, making coach David Parker very happy. “It was an outstanding performance especially considering it was her first heptathlon ever. It definitely shows national-level potential,” said coach Parker.
The transition to the heptathlon is coming along very quick and easy for Elliott who has had a tremendous spring season.
“Her strength will be her hurdles and jumps. She is showing great form
in the long jump even though she has never done it before. She long
jumped 17-4.5 and has only competed in the event once prior,” said Parker.
“She needs to improve her throws, the shot and javelin. A little time
and practice and we will see a major improvements.”
