In the completion of a game suspended due to rain April 1 in Portland, OSU won 18-6; the Beavers (25-28 overall, 7-17 Pacific-10) then followed that with a 4-3 win over the Pilots (9-45-1, 5-24-1 West Coast) in the final game of the season for both teams.
The suspended game had OSU leading 3-1 going into the fourth inning when play resumed. The Beavers broke the game open in the sixth inning when Aaron Mathews' three-run homer made it 7-1. Jacoby Ellsbury's two-run homer made it 9-1 in the seventh inning. OSU tacked on six more runs in the eighth to seal the victory.
Trevor Hahn led Portland with three hits and two RBI in game one. Teammates Brock Griffin and Jarod Grubb recorded two hits each. Justin Ballweber (0-1) recorded the loss for Portland. Ballweber was the Pilots’ pitcher when play was halted on April 1. Josh Roberts came into the game and pitched 4.1 innings. Roberts gave up 12 hits and 11 runs in the game.
For the Beaver’s, Jake Postlewait earned the win and finished the season with a 5-1 record. Kenny Anderson allowed just two runs on six hits in five innings of relief, striking out four.
In the second game, Oregon State pitchers Ben Rowe, Ty Kline, Noel Clark and Andy Baldwin combined on a six-hitter as the Beavers held off the Pilots, who pushed across single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
The Pilots rallied for a comeback in the eighth inning, but couldn’t score in the ninth as the Beavers went on to win. Kory Casto’s homer highlighted the Pilot offensive. It was his 14th homer of the season and he went 2-for-4 in the game. Pat Geraghty recorded two hits, one double and an RBI, while Brock Griffin and Justin Pierce tallied one hit each. Andrew Renyer (2-7) pitched 7.0 innings and took the loss. Daniel Knox pitched the final inning for Portland.
