SPOKANE, Wash.- Portland senior Tony Peressini shot a final round 70 (-2) to lead the Pilots to fifth place at the Bulldog Fall Invitational at Hangman Valley Golf Club. Peressini finished tied for sixth in the tournament, his first top-10 finish of the year, while sophomore Mike McCabe earned his third top-10 finish of the young season.
After an opening round 76, Peressini shot consecutive rounds in red numbers with a 71 (-1) to go along with his 2-under finish. The senior finished with a 217 (+1), leading the field in par 5 scoring (-5), and his 12 birdies were second overall. McCabe, who entered the third round tied for second place, shot a final round 76 (+4) for a three round total of 219 (+3). McCabe was second in the Invitational with 39 pars.
The University of Idaho claimed both the individual and team titles. Bill Witte’s 208 (-8) gave him a five-stroke advantage over second-place finisher Adam Syverson from Gonzaga.
Weber State (868), Gonzaga (873), Southern Utah (878) and Portland (879) rounded out the top-five in the 10-team field.
Redshirt freshman Jake Easterly fired a 223 (+7), good for a tie in 22nd place, and counted all three rounds in the Pilots’ team score. After a rough first round, sophomore Kevin Beavers rebounded with two even par rounds and finished tied for 40th at 227 (+11). Senior Justin Burwell shot three rounds of 76 to come in a No. 44 (228, +12).
UP NEXT: The Pilot men take a break until the Santa Clara Invitational on Oct. 27-28, at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club. The Turtle Bay Intercollegiate in Kahuku, Hawaii, concludes the fall golf schedule on Nov. 2-4.
