AUBURN, Ala.- The University of Portland men’s cross country team recorded a first-place victory out of the 21-team field at the Auburn Invitational hosted by Auburn University. Freshman John Moore was the highest Pilot finisher in third place. Sophomores Chuck McKenzie and Micah Rolfe were right behind Moore in fifth and seventh place. Brett Carter, Matt Sheeks, John Hoeck and Brendan Robinson also had top-20 finishes for the Pilots on the 8K Indian Pines Course.
Moore was clocked at 25:00.10 as he crossed the finish line, while McKenzie recorded a 25:08.94 clocking and Rolfe came in at 25:16.12.
Carter finished 12th with a 25:35.32 time, Sheeks took 13th (25:36.03), Hoeck came in 14th (25:37.43) and Robinson was clocked at 25:50.40 (18th).
Nick Schuetze (25:57.76) and Matt Harriman (27:35.85) did not factor into the team scoring, but finished in 24th place and 79th place, respectively.
Portland recorded a team score of 38 with an average team time of 25:19.31. Auburn (85) came in second with more than double the team points of Portland, while LSU came in third with a team score of 126.
Jacksonville State’s Josphat Waweru won the individual title with a total time of 24:35.49.
