GRESHAM, Ore.- The University of Portland men’s cross country ‘B’ team recorded a first-place victory out of the eight-team field at the Nike Jim Danner Invitational held at Blue Lake Park. Brendan Robinson won the individual title with a total time of 20:00.91, while teammates Chris Olinger (20:04.12) and Matt Perez (20:09.08) were right behind in second and third places, respectively. Trevor Coolidge (eighth place, 20:26.35) also had a top-20 finish for the Pilots.
“Our young guys did a great job,” said head coach Rob Conner. “It was fun to see a 1-2-3 finish for the Pilots in front of such a supportive crowd. I think it shows the depth of our program to hold out the top 10 and still have three guys run 5:00-pace for over 4-miles. It was a nice tune-up for those who are running conference in two weeks.”
Other Pilot finishers were: Andy Gorder in 26th place (20:52.39), JT Lehman in 28th place (20:56.15) and Steven Ault in 30th place (20:58.89).
Other Pilots that did not factor into the team scoring, but finished were Scott Knackstedt (33rd, 21:02.35), Nate Appel (34th, 21:03.32), Sean Wilson (36th, 21:05.61), Josh Singsaas (49th, 21:26.31), Brandon Wedam (66th, 22:12.24) and Andrew Melton (81st, 22:45.79).
Portland recorded a team score of 29, while Willamette came in at a close second with 45 points.
