JUNCTION CITY, Ore.-Portland junior Mike McCabe fired a final round 69 to lead the Pilots to a sixth-place tie at the Oregon Duck Invitational at Shadow Hills Country Club. McCabe finished in a tie for fourth place individually with a one-under par 215 (73-73-69). His 69 was the lowest of all participants in the tournament’s final round and helped the team climb five spots.
The three round team total of 900 tied Portland with Cal State Northridge, while San Diego State took the team title with an 861. SDSU’s Jeff Hansen won took the individual crown with a four-under par 211.
The Pilots were tied for 11th place after two rounds, but their final round 301 was the fourth best among the 14-team field on Tuesday. Oregon (867), Stanford (879), Oregon State (884) and Nevada (888) rounded out the top five team scores.
Other Pilot participants included Kevin Beavers who tied for 26th with a 225 (76-73-76), Tony Peressini tied for 47th at 229 (79-73-77), Jake Easterly tied for 64th with a 233 (78-76-79) and John Marty carded a 235 (77-76-82) tying him in 71st place.
Next up for the Pilots is the WCC Championship at Riverbend Golf Club on April 12-13.
