University of Portland senior Adam Quick recently signed a two-year deal to play professional basketball with the Townsville Crocodiles of the National Basketball League (NBL) in Australia.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to continue my basketball career,” said Adam Quick. “I believe that in my four years here at the University of Portland, my experience has prepared me to embrace this opportunity. I will definitely miss my UP family and will be closely following the Pilots from ‘Down Under’.
“While we are going to miss Adam’s contribution as our team leader, we’re excited that he’s taking the next step into the realm of professional basketball,” said Pilot Head Coach Michael Holton. “He has certainly prepared himself and we wish him well.”
Quick is no stranger to the Crocodiles coaching staff, having been a member of the Young Men’s Australian World Championship team coached by Ian Stacker in 2001, in which he was also named as Australia’s tournament MVP.
“I’m excited to play for coach Stacker again and am looking forward to the challenges that this new experience will bring,” said Quick.
Quick’s point guard career has progressed solidly at the University of Portland and he ended his career in second-place all-time in assists (529) and in eighth-place on the WCC all-time list, 25 shy of former Gonzaga star John Stockton. Quick is also among Portland’s all-time statistical leaders in three-point field goals made (third-place, 156), three-point field goals attempted (second-place, 451), free-throw percentage (third-place, .826) and assists average (third-place, 4.6).
In his senior campaign, he started and played in all 28 games, led the team in assists with 4.3 per game, was third in scoring (9.8 ppg) and posted 2.7 rebounds per game. He was second on the team in free-throw accuracy (.882) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.400). Quick recorded double-figure scoring in 15 games, tallying one double-double this past season.
Crocodile Head Coach Ian Stacker was confident that Quick could come in and make the transition from college basketball to NBL.
“Adam demonstrated several years ago that he was quite competent at an international level and now with four years of top level US College ball under his belt I think he will work extremely well with Kelvin in providing us with a quality point guard combination. Adam is good person all round and I think he will be fantastic for our program,” Stacker said.
Quick will stay in the USA to graduate from the University of Portland in his chosen field of Organizational Communications. He will return to Australia in May before relocating to Townsville in mid July prior to official pre season training on August 1.
