STANFORD, Calif. - Kevin Beavers shot a final round 72 and moved into a tie for 39th place to lead Portland at the U.S. Intercollegiate golf tournament, hosted by Stanford University at the Stanford Golf Course. Beavers finished with a 10-over par 223 for the tournament as the Pilots struggled with a team score of 907 over three rounds in their final outing of 2004.
UCLA claimed the team title with an 838 (-14) and San Diego State finished second with an 855 (+3) among the 19-team field. SDSU’s Aaron Goldberg ran away with the individual trophy after a final round 67 brought him to 205 (-8) for the tourney.
Among other Pilot golfers, junior Mike McCabe tied for 73rd at 230 (+17). Redshirt freshman Jake Easterly and senior Tony Peressini tied for 77th at 231 (+18), and freshman John Marty fired a 238 (+25) to tie for 93rd place.
