The University of Portland had another successful sports season in 2003-04, sending three fall sports teams to the NCAA postseason. The women's soccer team advanced to the third round, while the men's team pulled off a first round upset of Oregon State before being eliminated in the second round. The men's cross country team placed 27th overall at the NCAA Championships to round out a stellar fall season.
Academically, the Pilots had 24 West Coast Conference all-Academic selections and senior women's soccer star Imani Dorsey, the WCC Defensive Player of the Year, was named the Co-WCC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, in addition to being awarded an NCAA and WCC Post-Graduate Scholarship. Dorsey also became Portland's 15th CoSIDA Academic All-American, garnering second team honors.
Heather Denison, a senior outside hitter on the volleyball team, was one of three individuals nationwide to receive the NCAA's prestigious Inspiration Award after becoming the first Pilot volleyball player ever to earn a first team all-WCC selection.
