The University of Portland men’s tennis team defeated Idaho State University, 7-0 at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center on Sat., Jan. 29. The Pilots move to 2-1 on the season, while the Bengals fall to 1-1.
In doubles play, Portland swept Idaho State. The Pilots continued to dominate the match with solid singles’ performances only dropping two sets to the Bengals.
"We were solid today,” said Head Coach Aaron Gross. “There were places we could have played better, but overall we did a good job. We need to become a tougher team. When we get to March and we have a series of weekends where we play three matches in three days against quality teams we are really going to have our mettle tested. I am not sure yet if we are ready for that. Hopefully, we are on our way.”
Next up for the Pilot men is Eastern Washington University on Sun., Jan. 30 at the LP Tennis Center for a 3:00 p.m. start.
