Portland’s Christine Sinclair, Lindsey Huie, Kelsy Hollenbeck and Kari Evans were voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII women’s soccer team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today. All four players are now eligible for the Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in mid-November.
This is Sinclair’s fourth straight time on the Academic All-District VIII First Team. The senior forward and Life Science major has been twice named a third team CoSIDA Academic All-American (2002, 2004). She was also a 2004 NSCAA Scholar All-America selection and two-time WCC All-Academic Team selection. Sinclair has made Dean’s List all seven semesters at UP and is a three-time WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. On the pitch, Sinclair leads the nation with 30 goals and 68 points on the season.
This is Huie’s third time on the All-District VIII First Team. The senior midfielder is a two-time WCC All-Academic Team selection, has made the the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times and has made the Dean’s List three semesters. Huie is majoring in Psychology and currently leads the WCC with 13 assists.
Hollenbeck, a senior defender and Biology major, has made the Dean’s List six times. This is her second time on the Academic All-District VIII First Team, she’s a three-time WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection and was named to the WCC All-Academic Team in 2003. Hollenbeck has started all 18 games at left back and has helped the Pilots to 12 shutouts while logging a goal and four assists.
Evans is a junior defender majoring in Biology. She’s a two-time WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection and has made the Dean’s List all four semesters. She has led the Pilots’ backline to 12 shutouts and a 0.33 goals-against average. Evans has tallied one goal on the season.
The No. 2 Pilots conclude the regular season this Saturday as they host the Saint Mary’s Gaels at Merlo Field at 7 p.m. Portland has already clinched at least a share of its eighth conference title earning the West Coast Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs. The Pilots can win the conference title outright win a win against the Gaels on Saturday.
