Portland’s men’s tennis team (11-2, 3-0 WCC) saw its winning streak end at 11 matches on Friday afternoon, dropping a 7-0 decision to No. 41 Boise State (16-6) in Boise, Idaho.
The Pilots’ sole victory of the day came in doubles, where the makeshift duo of James Redpath and Alex Strom recorded an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 doubles position. The Pilots were without the services of Redpath’s usual doubles partner and No. 1 singles player Matthew Loucks.
Roman Borvanov had the task of matching up against the Broncos’ No. 34-ranked Luke Shields in the No. 1 singles position. Shields dealt Borvanov his first loss of the season, claiming a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Borvanov’s singles record drops to 10-1 on the dual season.
Portland will immediately get a chance to improve its 1-2 record against ranked opponents. The Pilots will take the court next on Sunday morning, when they will play No. 47-ranked UNLV (10-3) at Boise State’s Appleton Tennis Center.
