ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – The University of Portland men’s golf team fired a final round 303 to move up the leaderboard and finish 14th at the 17-team Fidelity National Title Intercollegiate held at Cypress Ridge Golf Course. Senior Mike McCabe led the Pilots individually with a 225, tying for 31st place overall at the par 72, 6,671-yard layout.
San Diego claimed the team title in a playoff over West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary’s after both schools came in at 874. Cal Poly (876), Weber State (880) and CSU-Bakersfield (885) rounded out the top five.
Greg Lopez of Cal State Bakersfield earned medalist honors in a playoff over Drake University’s Matt Brooks. Both players came in at 6-under par 210.
The Pilots will next compete at the West Coast Conference Championships held at Saddle Creek Country Club in Copperopolis, Calif. on April 11-12.
