Portland’s men’s tennis team (12-4, 3-0 WCC) was beat 5-2 by the University of the Pacific (8-7, 3-1 Big West) on Friday afternoon in the first match of the Pilots’ three-game road swing.
The Tigers began the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of three matches over Portland. The Pilots’ lone doubles win came in the No. 1 position, where the duo of Matthew Loucks and James Redpath recorded an 8-4 victory.
In the No. 3 position, Redpath notched one of Portland’s two singles victories after grinding out a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Pacific’s Niclas Otte. Scott Kennel had the other victory, winning 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 position.
The Pilots continue their road trip with a game on Saturday at UC Davis at 1:00 p.m. The team will return home after playing Sacramento State on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
