The University of Portland’s men’s tennis team won its fourth consecutive match on Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Idaho Vandals (3-11, 0-1 Big West) by a score of 6-1. The victory improves the Pilots’ record to 16-4 on the season.
Portland started off the dual by sweeping the doubles matches. In the No. 1 position, the dynamic combination of James Redpath and Matthew Loucks won its 16th consecutive match, defeating the Vandals’ Terence Nugent and Uriah Jones 8-4. The Pilots received 8-6 and 8-2 wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.
The Pilots had their way with the Vandals in singles, winning five of the six matches. Roman Borvanov, playing in the No. 1 position for just the third time this season, defeated Nugent to improve his dual singles record to 16-2. Loucks, Redpath, Alex Strom, and Scott Kennel also recorded singles wins.
Portland will battle No. 70 Montana State University-Bozeman (14-5, 4-0 Big Sky) on Sunday in its final regular season game before the WCC Championships begin in Malibu, Calif. on April 22.
