Senior Kevin Beavers ties for fourth overall at 1-over par 217
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. --- Senior Kevin Beavers carded a 1-over par 217 to tie for fourth place overall and lead the Portland Pilots to a fifth place team finish at the Bill Cullum Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Wood Ranch Golf Club. Portland finished at 895 (+31) overall, while Loyola Marymount claimed the team title at 873.
LMU’s Brian Locke won medalist honors at 9-under par 207, seven strokes better than the next golfer.
Beavers finished day one of the 54-hole tournament at 2-under par, with an opening round 73 and second round 69 on Monday. He carded a 75 on Tuesday. He was joined in the top 20 by freshman teammate Terrence Macatangay, who finished tied for 18th overall at 221 (+5).
Senior Jake Easterly shot a final round 74 and finished just outside of the top 20 at 223, while freshman Thomas Robertson (235) and junior Joel Johnson (246) rounded out the Pilot scoring.
Portland held off West Coast Conference rival Gonzaga and Idaho State by two strokes for the top five team finish among the 14-team field.
The Pilots next hit the links during the spring season at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational, played at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah on Feb. 12-13.
