SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Washington Huskies scored seven times in the seventh inning en route to an 8-1 victory over the Portland Pilots in a non-conference baseball game on Monday night at Husky Ballpark. Sophomore Danny Meier hit his team-leading seventh home run for the Pilots, who drop to 13-31 for the season.

Leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies touched three Portland pitchers for seven runs on four hits. Washington (32-19) scored the first run with a one-out, RBI double by Matt Hague off of Portland starter Austin Dirkx (1-4). Reliever Sean Sargent then replaced Dirkx and surrendered an RBI double by Zach Clem. Two more runs then scored on a Pilot error with reliever Chris Siegfried on the hill. Then with two on and two out, Matt Stevens homered to right-center field, making it an 8-0 ball game.

Dirkx yielded three runs on five hits in 6.1 innings, while striking out five.

Washington starter Nick Hagadone (2-2) held the Pilots scoreless on two hits in 5.0 innings. He also struck out a pair.

UW reliever Matt Kesser, the third pitcher for the Huskies, gave up Portland’s lone run in the eighth. Meier led off the inning with a solo home run to left-center field to get the Pilots on the board.

Meier was also plunked twice in the game, as Portland finished with six hits.

The Huskies totaled eight hits. Clem finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Pilots next play the Huskies tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Husky Ballpark. Portland then travels to California for a three-game West Coast Conference series at Santa Clara beginning on Friday.
