INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – USA Track & Field recently announced that University of Portland sophomore John Moore (Olympia, Wash.) will compete at the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association’s (NACAC) U23 Track & Field Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in early July.
Moore (pictured) will run the 10,000 at the event, scheduled to be held at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 8. He was selected thanks to his time of 28:43.19 in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational. Not only did this time set a new school record in the event, but it was also the second fastest U23 time run by an American this year.
“This is a great opportunity for John to gain some international experience,” Portland men’s track & field coach Rob Conner said. “He has earned All-American status in both cross country and track at the NCAA level, and the logical next step is to represent the United States by wearing the red, white, and blue.”
Moore earned his first NCAA All-American honor last year in the 10,000-meter run at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He followed that with an All-American performance last fall at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
