Megan Rapinoe and Stephanie Lopez are summoned to the U.S. Women’s Soccer National Team Training Camp scheduled for Sept. 26-Oct. 1
CHICAGO --- University of Portland sophomore Megan Rapinoe and junior Stephanie Lopez are two of 24 players brought in by U.S. Women’s Soccer National Team head coach Greg Ryan for a training camp prior to the USA’s match against Chinese Taipei on Sunday, Oct. 1 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The training camp will run from Sept. 26 to Oct. 1, when Ryan will name his 18-player roster for the international friendly, which will be aired live at 1 p.m. on ESPN2.
Rapinoe and Lopez both saw action in the USA’s last match, a 3-1 win over Mexico on Sept. 13. They are joined by UCLA junior Danesha Adams as the only collegians named to the training camp roster.
Rapinoe, who is tied for the NCAA lead with nine goals already for the Pilots this season, has made three appearances with the senior team. Lopez has six senior caps under her belt and recently captained the U.S. Under-20 National Team at the FIFA World Youth Championships in Russia. Lopez has appeared in just one match for the Pilots this season because of national team commitments.
As a result of their national team commitments, the Pilots will be without Rapinoe and Lopez for home matches against the Washington Huskies on Sept. 29 and the Oregon Ducks on Oct. 1.
