SEATTLE, Wash. --- The University of Portland men’s track team was in action last weekend at the Washington Indoor Invitational. Among the thousands in attendance, two U.S.-leading times and 36 NCAA-qualifying performances, several Pilots posted solid times in their indoor season debuts.
Three seniors competed in the mile, with Matt Sheeks (pictured) crossing the line in 4:10.80, Chuck McKenzie’s in 4:16.52 and Brendan Robinson in 4:31.08.
Sheeks also ran in the 3000 meters, finishing in 8:15.82.
Six Pilots ran in the 5000 meters, with sophomore Colin Longmuir pacing the way with a time of 15:17.24. A pair of freshmen followed, with Andrew Edick’s 15:33.08 and Lars Wyett’s 15:33.81. Sophomore Corey Hansen finished in 15:58.39, while seniors J.T. Lehmen and Michael Haugen clocked in at 16:07.97 and 16:08.77 respectively.
Portland also had three distance medley teams compete, with the ‘A’ team winning its section with a time of 10:11.69, followed by the ‘B’ team’s second place 10:18.49 performance and the ‘C’ team’s fourth-place 10:20.21 showing.
Next up for the Pilots is the Chiles Center Indoor, which will take place at home on Friday, Feb. 2.
