PORTLAND, Ore. --- Every player in uniform scored for Portland as the Pilots defeated the Concordia Cavaliers 101-42 in a women’s basketball exhibition game Thursday night at the Chiles Center. Four Pilots scored in double figures, led by senior Rachel Warren’s game-high 15 points.
Warren hit six of 10 from the field and was a perfect three-for-three from the free throw line. She just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Portland scored the game’s first seven points and never looked back en route to the win. UP sophomore guard Laiken Dollente scored 10 first-half points to help the Pilots build a 49-16 lead at the break. About five minutes into the game, Dollente scored seven straight points to give Portland its first double-digit lead at 14-3. Dollente, a 2007 All-WCC selection, finished with 10 points and seven assists.
In the second half, Portland enjoyed its biggest lead of the night at 101-40 with 53 seconds left. A three-pointer by junior Jennifer Wassom with just under a minute left pushed the Pilots past the 100-point barrier.
The Pilots shot 61.3 percent (19-for-31) in the second half and finished at 49.3 percent (36-for-73) for the game. Portland also hit 10 of 22 (45.5 percent) from behind the three-point line. Junior Meagan Bermingham, who hit three of four three-pointers, finished with 13 points for UP.
Portland sophomore Laura Thomas poured in 11 points, while grabbing nine boards. Senior Rachel Stratton, junior Allyson Sievers and freshmen Lauren Angel and Tara Cronin each scored eight points for the Pilots.
Portland held Concordia, an NAIA school located in Northeast Portland, to 27 percent (10-for-37) shooting on the night. Maryam Razavi scored a team-high 10 points, while Sarah Eischen grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
The Pilots forced 35 Cavalier turnovers, converting them into 55 points. CU scored five points on 12 UP turnovers.
The Pilots held a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint and a 39-29 edge in rebounds. Portland also handed out 27 assists on 36 field goals.
The Pilots next host another Concordia on Monday, Nov. 5, as Concordia of California visits for a 7:00 p.m. game at the Chiles Center. The Pilots open the regular season at Washington State on Nov. 9 in Pullman, Wash.
