PORTLAND, Ore. --- Doug Sparks has resigned as head coach of the University of Portland volleyball team, the school announced on Monday. Sparks served for eight years as head coach, following a four-year stint as an assistant on staff. A national search to fill the position will begin immediately.
“We are grateful for the many contributions Doug has made to the University and most especially his commitment to the academic and social development of our student-athletes,” Portland Athletic Director Larry Williams said.
Sparks compiled a 71-153 overall record in eight seasons as head coach at Portland. The Pilots finished the 2007 season 7-21 overall and 0-14 in West Coast Conference matches. Sparks served as an assistant for the Pilots from 1995-99 before taking over prior to the 2000 season.
