NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. --- Portland senior Jake Easterly placed 20th overall at the Anteater Invitational held at Big Canyon Country Club, the Pilots’ second tournament of the spring season. Easterly, who shot a three-round total of 232, led a field of five Pilots at the event.
Easterly bounced back from a first round 81 to shoot 76 in the second round and a team-low round of 75 in the third round to finish in a tie with three other golfers for 20th place.
Facing a difficult field, Portland as a team placed tenth out of 10 competing schools. Host UC-Irvine took home the team win with a score of 884, 19 strokes ahead of the second-place Arizona B squad. Saint Mary’s (912), UC-Riverside (914) and San Francisco (916) rounded out the top five.
Domingo Jojola of San Francisco won the individual title, shooting a tournament-low first round of 69 and holding to the lead throughout, finishing with a three-round total of 212. Complete results can be seen by following the above link.
For Portland, senior Kevin Beavers placed 31st with a total of 235. Freshman Terence Macatangay placed 40th with a total of 238, including an overall team-low 75 in the second round. Freshman Thomas Robertson finished 51st (253) and junior Zach Thompson placed 52nd (257).
Next up for the Pilots is the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif. The event will be held at the Oak Valley Golf Club on March 5-6.
