CHENEY, Wash. --- The University of Portland men’s tennis team won its final tune-up before the West Coast Conference tournament, dispatching Eastern Washington 5-2 on Sunday morning. The Pilots improve their record to 12-6 while the Eagles fall to 11-9.
The win completes a successful road trip for the Pilots, who went 2-0 with victories over Montana and Eastern Washington.
The Pilots jumped to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, with senior Colby Jager (pictured) and freshman Filip Zivkovic teaming up to down Jonathon Davis and Patrick Millican 8-2 at the No. 1 position and sophomore Joel Kincaid and freshman Evan Schleining winning 8-4 over Kevin Erickson and Keithan Gregg at the third position.
In singles play the Pilots won all the matches at the top four positions to secure the victory, with Zivkovic, senior Alex Strom, Kincaid and Jager all picking up wins.
Next up for the Pilots is the WCC tournament on Friday, April 20 in San Diego.
