Senior Kevin Beavers ties for 13th place in Portland’s final event of the 2006-07 season
LOMPOC, Calif. --- Portland senior Kevin Beavers’ first-round 73 helped him tie for 13th place individually to lead the Pilots at the West Coast Conference Championships, which finished on Tuesday at La Purisima Golf Course. Pepperdine finished on top of the field, as the Waves claimed both the men’s and women’s team titles.
San Diego (898) finished in second place, five strokes back of the Waves. Loyola Marymount totaled a 901 to place third, Saint Mary’s finished fourth with a 904, while San Francisco tied Santa Clara for fifth with a 906.
Portland combined for a three-round total of 930 to place eighth.
LMU’s Brian Locke closed with back-to-back 69’s to claim medalist honors with a one-under 215. Teammate Jason D’Amore finished second, two strokes off the pace. Eric Shriver, who finished third with a two-over 218, was Pepperdine’s top individual finisher.
Beavers, who earned All-WCC Honorable Mention, closed with a 76 and a 77 on the par 72 course. He finished with a 10-over par 226. Freshman Thomas Robertson had a solid tourney and shot three rounds in the 70’s to tie for 22nd place with a 232.
Senior Jake Easterly shot a 235 to tie for 30th, freshman Terence Macatangay’s 241 earned him a 31st-place finish, while junior Zach Thompson placed 37th with a 246.
