Alex Strom posts UP’s lone victory against San Francisco in the fifth place match
SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The Portland Pilot men’s tennis team closed its 2007 season with a 4-1 loss to San Francisco in the fifth place match of the West Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Championships. Senior Alex Strom capped his Portland career with a three set victory at the No. 2 singles to record Portland’s only victory.
Portland finishes the year with a 13-8 overall record, while San Francisco improved to 13-13.
The Pilots dropped the doubles point despite winning at No. 1 with Colby Jager and Filip Zivkovic posting an 8-6 victory. USF came back with wins at the other two doubles positions and then won singles at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4.
The fifth and sixth positions did not finish after USF clinched the victory.
Portland, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, lost to Saint Mary’s on Friday and defeated Gonzaga on Saturday to reach the fifth place match.
