Portland places seventh in the conference with the victory
MALIBU, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots beat the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Sunday in the West Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championships by a 4-2 margin to place seventh in the league. Portland caps its 2007 season with an 11-12 overall record.
Because of rainy weather, doubles action was bypassed and the match was decided in singles. Gonzaga won both matches at the top of the lineup, but Portland’s No. 3-6 players cruised to straight set wins and the team victory.
Junior Lindsey Griffin won her third match in as many days at No. 3, while Jenna Tanzer, Anna Gullickson and Audree Jenks also posted wins.
Portland, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, lost in the opening round to LMU and then dropped a consolation match to Santa Clara before taking out the Bulldogs.
