NEW ORLEANS – University of Portland cross country runners David Kinsella, John Moore and Dana Morgan were named to the 2007 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, announced on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
A total of 56 male and 91 female student athletes were named to the 2007 USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.
“All-Academic honors are something we strive to cultivate,” Portland men’s cross country coach Rob Conner said. “We are really proud of the academic record our teams have posted over the years. David, John and Dana are not only leaders athletically, but are great students as well.”
Kinsella, a redshirt junior, placed eighth overall at the 2007 NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors and is a biology major. Moore, a senior nursing major, battled through a stomach cramp to finish 169th at nationals after placing fourth at the NCAA West Regional. Morgan qualified for nationals as an individual and placed 46th overall, the second highest finish in Portland women’s cross country history. Just a sophomore, Morgan is majoring in biology also.
The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have completed a minimum 24 semester hours through the 2007 fall term. Additionally, the student-athlete must finish in the top 15 or top ten percent at their respective NCAA regional meet, or receive All-American honors.
