SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- The Santa Clara Broncos dealt the Portland Pilots a 76-62 loss in the West Coast Conference regular season finale on Saturday at the Leavey Center. Sophomore guard Laiken Dollente led the Pilots with 16 points.
The Broncos (18-10, 7-6 WCC) built a big lead in the first half and never looked back. Santa Clara led 44-27 at the break and led by as many as 27 points in the second half. Five Broncos scored in double figures, led by Tracey Walker and Sara Majors, who both scored 17. Majors added 12 boards for the double-double. Jen Gottschalk also had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Dollente hit all four of her free throws and hit two three-pointers to lead the Pilots (15-14, 5-9 WCC). Senior guard Rachel Stratton had her best game of the year with 13 points. She shot five-for-eight from the floor and hit three treys.
Junior forward Allyson Sievers had another solid outing with 12 points and six rebounds.
Portland shot 35 percent from the field, hit six three-pointers and went 14-for-15 from the line. The Broncos shot 46 percent for the game, connected on seven three-pointers and shot 15-for-20 from the foul line.
SCU outrebounded UP 42-32.
The Pilots next travel to San Diego, Calif., for the WCC Tournament at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Portland is the sixth seed and will play the number three seed and tournament host USD on March 6.
